I haven't really used fighters all that much, and haven't even touched bombing runs at all in game yet. What do all of you consider to be good low cost air power for the interceptor role or the strike craft (anti-ground) role? I know I need something eventually, but don't know what I should be looking for.  |

Stingray F-90's are amazing for their price of 2.98 million each. You get a 60 ton platform running 6/9 movement, 1xPPC, 2xLL and 2xML with no ammo concerns.
The Lightning LTN-G15 grants you an AC/20 with 10 rounds, plus 3xML forward and 1xML aft, on a 50 ton chassis, also 6/9 movement for only 2.44 million as well. A great tank buster!
Spad SPD-502's are very cheap at 1.54 million mounting 1xPPC, 1xML and 1xSL forward, at 30 tons and a movement of 7/11. Great when it hits slugging off 10 pts of armor at a time with the Particle Canon.
The Clan made Chaeronea is also great in most variants usually under 1.85 million.
If you don't mind a little more expense the Corsair CSR-V12b at 2.83 million is a favorite with two Star League ER Large Lasers, 2xMPL, 1xML forward and 2xSL aft. It is one of the first craft from low to high price to mount double heat sinks, moves 6/9 with 224 armor at 50 tons.

I know it is Clan tech, so not that cheap, yet the Avar series is a great asset to have for a light unit. Sorry, don't know the price off hand.

Why not basically any VTOL? They are mostly all cheap and great spotters, since they have more control on where they get to move.

Yeah it is hard to beat a Yellow Jacket at 1,120,000 Million.
The Shilone is a great 60 ton with a variety of weapons at its disposal. Good in atmosphere too. Although it is more costly at 3.4 Million.
Also don't underestimate a swarm of SYD-21 Seydlitz with their lone large lasers at 1.3 Million. They are a good death by paper cut option.

I am a fan of the Zero, even if it isn't found anywhere outside of Comstar post SWars. A nice little airframe for 35 tons with a Large Laser, LRM-10 and Medium Laser. Good and many ranges, relatively fast and only 1.6 million cost. The 115 variant swaps into a ER PPC with duel Streak-2's and double heat sinks to make a great light vehicle killer either with the PPC punch or immobilization from missile crits.

I havent used aerospace at all myself in game but someone i play with swears by the Samurai supposedly easy on the pocketbook at something over 2mill. 5 medium lasers and 3 small lasers forward with a few more aft. and it has been around since before Amaris Crisis.

It isn't that cheap but the Yellow Jacket PPC is a true beast. I just played against two and some mechs the ai was controlling and I couldn't hit them, they kept dancing around and of course never could run out of ammo! They killed more of my force than the mechs did, took out a trebuchet with ammo crit, finished off the head of a vindicator and flattened two hetzers lrms.
