QUESTION SUBMITTED BY EMAIL:
BTW I'm just curious about starting funds. I'm on 10mill c-bills here which whilst enough to buy a few _________, doesn't leave me with many options. Is this correct? I'd imagine some clan players may struggle to even get units aside from infantry considering their costs.
I'm just looking to understand the rate of unit acquisition you're expecting and Force composition.
Yes the initial starting capital is a paltry 10 million + first round population taxes. Don't let that discourage you. As you acquire more territory it starts to snowball much faster. There are several reasons for the slow amount at the very start, it is to make sure players think really hard first before purchasing, get folks to focus on all unit types as many are acquiring assets they wouldn't otherwise tend to use (VTOL's, tanks, infantry) in larger numbers, and to better watch and make sure that player starting locations are more or less balanced in terms of worth. Each new player's starting 25 map squares always contains 3 061 population, but beyond that the numbers are more random, and I can't control where you all explore. Since starting areas will greatly affect player long term expansion I am taking a cautious approach and watching. Some of you will pull ahead faster than others, some of your lands might be less rich than others.
That said you can expect additional injections of free money when you reach milestones (having been around for 5 turns, 10 turns, etc) along with "bonus" rewards for players on important holidays. From the alpha play test I realized tossing too much at the players all at once was a bad idea.
While DropShips are perhaps an ultimate prize, getting your first heavy mech or assault tank should feel like a stepping stone.
