Enduring and unyielding
(The CIM flag)
A new empire with old traditions. The CIM (Coalition of Interdependent Municipalities) began in the, now, capital of Firünburg. The city named after its founder of Pieter Firün has grown in stature and power due to a long line of competent and caring leaders and over time other smaller villages and hamlets joined this burgeoning city. The ideals of democracy are lively here and every inhabitant has been able to vote and make their voice known, as long as they do not directly threaten the end of the CIM.
Pieter Firün however is a controversial figure in CIM history, whilst he was a highly effective and compassionate leader he had delusions of grandeur. He saw himself as a spiritual descendent of the absolute monarchs of ancient Terra and acted as such. Waging harsh wars upon other settlements so early in the colonization of the planet brought a heavy toll upon the resources and lives of the people. Such was the toll that his own daughter, Erika Firün, rallied the palace guards against him put a stop to his reign. Everybody agrees that Pieter stepped down willingly and went into exile but the historians disagree on the reason why. More religious historians argue that in the moment that he saw his people and his own daughter rise against him the Lord spoke to him and that to save his own soul he had to let go of his earthly sin and surrender himself to the Lord's glory. Others argue that he was still grounded enough in reality that if he did not resign he would have been forceble removed and/or killed.
Lady Erika changed the entire political system and created what is now in place, every notable settlement would be able to govern themselves and be semi-independent so that never a man like her father could rise again. As effective as her father but grounded in reality she had healed many wounds that were still in place in the CIM region, yet the wounds caused by her father upon those outside her reach were so deep that grudges would be held for generations. The wars of vengeance waged upon the CIM after her leadership had ended eroded the Coalition, sliver by sliver, and eventually some members were either fully destroyed or abandoned the cause.
After 288 years of conflict the severe deterioration of the military strength caused bands of pirates and bandits to roam through the lands. Such was the devastation and vile acts caused by them that to join the military was almost seen as one's holy duty and thus there was a great influx of volunteers forces who bought their own equiptment. One such volunteer was Isabella dú Lange, a lady from an incredible wealthy family. Her father a media tycoon and her mother the mayor of Firünburg (not a Firün herself) she was expected to follow eithers footsteps, however she volunteered for frontline duty against the scum with a customly designed Battlemech. Initially she was neither a exceptional mechwarrior or an acceptable leader but the months of combat hardened her and showed she had talent. Some say she was chosen by the Lord to defend the defenseless and fight for the right of all. Whether these claims are true didn't matter to her, she made adjustments to her 'mech to make it seem as if its laser weaponry shot with holy light and a there was a halo around her 'mech's head. Her reputation and skill scared away or even forced many potential enemies to surrender in her life.
As the chances of justice upon the frontlines became less and less she used the wealth she had accrued to finance two massive complexes, one which now house the military academy of Firünburg where the prominent soldiers and military theorists are being trained. Over time a rift was formed between two factions. One faction naming themselves the "Vanguard of the Maiden's Light", headed by the head of a influential family Duke Daring, believes in aggresive mobile warfare, preempitively striking threats to the CIM and the expansion of the battlemech forces. The other faction headed by Chief of Security Frederick Höfman of the Coalition of Interdependent Municipalities Protection Services, the "Armoured Mountain Boars", advocate for a more defensive posture, a slower military but armed and armoured to the teeth with overwhelming fire support. The other complex is the ,now named, Our Maiden of Guiding Light Cathedral where she is entombed together with her mech and displayed in the right wing of the Cathedral behind some protective measures. All requests to scan or research the mech has been denied and to do so without permission carries a hefty punishment.
Maiden Dú Lange slowed the decline of the CIM but did not stop it. In the last few years the coalition was reduced but to one city, Firünburg, and it seemed to be its end. A daring raid upon the city itself caused many records of the geography and topography of the world to be burned, deleted and corrupted. The city itself came back, reclaimed the production facilities around the city and is now marching back into the forefront of the region, if not the world.
Under the leadership of the current mayor of Firünburg, Johannes Firün the Coalition has been revived, a bright new future is in sight and now it's truly living up to its long-lasting motto "Enduring and Unyielding."
